Alohi Turns 10: From Fax.Plus to Work That Flows Itself

Alohi was born in Geneva in October 2016 around one belief: work should flow. Ten years later, more than 5 million companies and end-users in 192 countries use Fax.Plus, Sign.Plus, Scan.Plus, and Dial.Plus. Alohi products are also used within more than 70% of the Fortune 500.

Behind that belief was a simple observation. Progress often gets stuck in the everyday work surrounding a bigger goal: a form waiting for a signature, a fax a hospital needs before it can act, or a call that comes in after hours. When those tasks move, people can focus on the work that needs their judgment, care, and ideas.

Here is what ten years of making work flow has taught us, and where we are taking it next.

We Started Where the Stakes Were Highest

Our first product was Fax.Plus, a deliberate choice. Fax still carries some of the world’s most sensitive documents: patient referrals, prescriptions, court filings, and bank instructions. Hospitals, law firms, financial institutions, and public agencies depend on it every day. Yet in 2016, much of it still relied on machines and phone lines that had barely changed in decades.

“For the people who relied on it, fax was never old news,” says Ali Ghasemzadeh, Alohi’s founder and CEO. “It was critical infrastructure that hadn’t kept up. That felt like a problem worth fixing.”

We rebuilt fax for the cloud: accessible from any device, secure enough for sensitive documents, and reliable enough for essential workflows. Fax.Plus taught us the lesson that still shapes everything we build: everyday work is often the work that matters most.

From One Product to a Platform

Fax was where we started, but it was never the whole idea. Every product since has answered the same question: where does work get stuck, and how can we help it move?

In 2022, Sign.Plus extended our work to legally binding electronic signatures, including qualified electronic signatures that carry the same legal effect as handwritten signatures under US, EU and Swiss law. Scan.Plus followed in 2023, using AI to turn phone photos into clean, scanner-quality PDFs. With Dial.Plus, we are bringing the same approach to phone calls: helping businesses answer around the clock in their own voice.

That brings us back to the idea behind our name. Alohi combines “Alo,” what you say when you answer the phone, with “Hi,” what you say next, plus a touch of Aloha. A decade later, we are returning to that original idea with Dial.Plus.

Today, all four products are accessible through one Alohi account, and developers can integrate Alohi products into their own systems through our APIs. Alohi’s work was recognized in 2024 with the Innovation Prize at Geneva’s Grands Prix de l’Économie.

Trusted at Scale

Growth came steadily, then quickly. We reached one million users in 2020 and over five million this year. Today, millions of faxes pass through Fax.Plus every month, and Alohi products are used within more than 70% of the Fortune 500.

Alohi supports work across healthcare, finance, insurance, law, and technology, industries where a lost document or missed communication creates real risk. That trust is earned through the reliability of each task, every day.

Built for Work That Matters

Security has been part of Alohi’s foundation from the start. We have been HIPAA compliant since 2019 and have held ISO 27001 certification and SOC 2 Type II compliance since 2021. We also support GDPR, PHIPA, PCI DSS, and CCPA requirements.

Fax.Plus Enterprise includes SAML single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, and enforced two-factor authentication. Customers can select from more than 40 data residency locations across the United States, Canada, Europe, Switzerland, and Asia. Our services operate at 99.99% uptime. We have also stayed independent. Alohi has never raised venture capital, and since 2019, our growth has been funded by our customers. That independence allows us to build around their needs and plan beyond the next quarter.

AI is also changing how we work inside Alohi. Every team uses it to move faster and take on work that was previously out of reach. In customer support, AI works alongside human experts and has helped cut resolution times roughly in half.

The Next Chapter: Work That Flows Itself

For ten years, we have made work flow. The fax arrives. The contract gets signed. The scan comes out clean. The call gets answered.

Now we are going further, toward work that flows itself: AI that can take a task from request to completion, with people in control of the decisions that matter.

It has already started. Dial.Plus is designed to answer calls that would otherwise go unanswered. Fax.Plus now connects with compatible AI assistants, including ChatGPT and Claude, so teams can send and track faxes through a conversation. Every action remains governed by the account’s existing permissions.

Imagine a call that ends with an appointment booked and the paperwork ready to sign. A fax that is read, understood, and routed to the right person before anyone opens it. Teams that spend more of their day on judgment, care, and new ideas while routine work keeps moving.

People decide. Everything else moves on its own. That is where we are taking Alohi next, with the same focus on security and reliability that has guided our first ten years.
